What you get
Anyone can freeze their credit report for any reason, even if their identity has not been stolen. A freeze lasts until you lift it.
Notes
To place a freeze, contact Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion. When a lender needs access, contact the bureau or bureaus involved to lift the freeze, then put it back in place when the credit check is over.
