What it costs

Time to use OptOutPrescreen.com or call 1-888-567-8688. The FTC says opting out is free.

What you get

You have two choices: opt out for five years, or opt out permanently by completing and returning the Permanent Opt-Out Election form. The FTC says requests are processed within five days.

Notes

The opt-out stops prescreened offers based on lists from the major credit bureaus. It may take several weeks before offers stop, because some companies may have received your information before the request was processed. It does not stop every unsolicited offer.
